We talked about stress this week, and sleep goes hand-in-hand with this and is another one of those things were you can’t eat right all you want but if you’re not sleeping you’re not healthy. One-third of the population suffers from insomnia. What does this mean?
- elevated cortisol levels
- which means you’re more likely to develop diabetes
- fatter
- cutting back 5 hours of sleep for a week has been shown to decrease insulin sensitivity
- sleep restriction impairs carbohydrate tolerance
- a loss of 3 hours correlates to 4-5% weight gain
There is more to sleep and we’ve covered it extensively in the past so search the site for previous post. Good Night!
